The High Speed Gear Box, High Efficiency, is perfect for high speed applications. Two gear ratios are possible, and several styles of crank arms are supplied for a variety of uses. A RE-260 motor is included. The gear box can be mounted vertically or horizontally.
High-Speed Gearbox Kit (Tamiya 72002)
The high-speed gearbox can be assembled in 11.6:1 and 18:1 gear ratios. This high-efficiency gearbox is therefore suited for very fast vehicles or other fast mechanisms that do not require high torque.

The low-voltage motors in the high-speed gearbox run on 3-6 volts and draw up to a few amps, making them perfect candidates for the Pololu low-voltage dual serial motor controller. The Pololu Orangutan LV-168 robot controller, which incorporates these low-voltage motor drivers, would be a great control center for a robot using these motors. Motor overheating can be caused by excessive stalling, even at very low voltages. We recommend that you use stall-detection sensors, or just watch your robot, to make sure that it doesn’t stall for more than a few seconds at a time.
This gearbox has a 4 mm, round output shaft, which works with the wheels that are compatible with Tamiya 4 mm, round shafts. Our 3 mm universal mounting hub also fits on the threaded end of the shaft, although it is not specifically intended to work with this type of shaft (the hub’s set screw could damage the thread on the shaft).
