The Grasshopper was released in 1984 and was squarely aimed at the beginner market. The car went back to basics to provide the most entry level car at the lowest price for a new driver. The car still had high build quality and good durability, and with the low price enjoyed a very high level of success.
The Grasshopper went on to be a big seller in most countries where Tamiya was selling and many kids of the 80's had their first taste of build your own rc cars with the Grasshopper.
Being a basic car the main chassis was a hard plastic durable tub configuration, coil spring suspension all round and a RS-380S motor to power the car. The car was rear wheel drive like other kits but had good handling and control.
The body was a hard ABS plastic one with detailed driver figure, headlights and rear wing.
